Monsoon to Remain Active Throughout September, Intermittent Rain Likely Across Bengal

Kolkata, 3 September (Kiran News): The monsoon is expected to remain active across West Bengal throughout September, bringing intermittent rainfall to various parts of the state. According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon winds will continue till the first or second week of October, leading to ongoing rain spells. However, it is still uncertain whether it will rain during the Durga Puja festivities.

Officials from the weather department stated that a cyclonic circulation over the northeast Bay of Bengal intensified into a low-pressure area on Tuesday. By Wednesday evening, this system is expected to further strengthen and move west and northwest, entering land through the Odisha coast.

In South Bengal, heavy rainfall is expected on Wednesday in the coastal and western districts, including East and West Midnapore, South 24 Parganas, and Jhargram. On Thursday and Friday, most districts of South Bengal are likely to experience thunderstorms and rain, with wind speeds ranging from 30 to 40 kilometres per hour in Kolkata, Howrah, and Hooghly.

In North Bengal, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is also expected on Wednesday. Districts such as Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri may see winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour. The intensity of rainfall is likely to decrease from Thursday, with relatively calm weather on Friday and Saturday. However, another spell of rain is expected to begin on Sunday, with heavy rainfall likely in the mentioned districts on Sunday and Monday.

In Kolkata, Wednesday morning will generally be cloudy, with chances of light to moderate rain or thunderstorms at intervals. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 31 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may hover near 26 degrees Celsius. The city recorded 26.5 mm of rainfall between Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning. Humidity levels remain high, ranging between 79 and 97 percent, which may cause discomfort due to sultry weather.
