Udaipur, May 18 — Amid scorching heatwaves sweeping across Rajasthan, a much-awaited respite is on the horizon. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the southwest monsoon is likely to arrive in Rajasthan between June 20 and June 25, right on schedule. The onset date for Udaipur has also been predicted as June 25, with the monsoon expected to enter through Udaipur and Kota divisions.
🌧️ Timely Monsoon Predicted for Rajasthan
Radhey Shyam Sharma, Director of the IMD’s Jaipur Meteorological Centre, stated that favourable atmospheric conditions are already forming. The monsoon has advanced into parts of the southern Arabian Sea, Maldives, southern Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, and central Bay of Bengal as of Saturday, indicating that it is progressing steadily toward the Indian mainland.
India traditionally receives its first monsoon showers in Kerala, which may witness early onset by May 23, four days ahead of the usual June 1 schedule. Rajasthan typically sees monsoon onset around June 25, and this pattern is likely to hold true this year, particularly in Udaipur.
☁️ Udaipur’s Rainfall Outlook
Udaipur, which records an average of 617.7 mm rainfall during the monsoon season, has seen on-time monsoon arrivals on June 25 for the past two years. With the advancing monsoon system and strengthening lower-level winds, weather models indicate a similar arrival this year, offering hope for timely rainfall and agricultural planning.
