Money Dispute Turns Deadly: Younger Brother Kills Elder Brother with Axe in Barmer

Barmer, October 23 (Udaipur Kiran) — A shocking case of fratricide was reported late Wednesday night in Nawatla Jaitmal village under Beejarad police station limits in Barmer district, where a younger brother allegedly killed his elder brother following a dispute over money.

According to police, the accused Kishanaram (30) attacked his elder brother Gunesharam (35) with an axe during a heated argument about a financial transaction. The victim sustained a fatal injury to the back of his head and died on the spot. After the attack, Kishanaram fled the scene.

Beejarad Station House Officer (SHO) Magaram said that the brothers were quarrelling over repayment of money, and the argument quickly escalated into violence. “In a fit of rage, Kishanaram picked up an axe and struck his brother multiple times, leading to his death on the spot,” the officer said.

Upon receiving information, Beejarad police, along with FSL and MOB units, reached the location and collected forensic evidence. The body has been kept at the Chohtan hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

Police have formed special teams to trace and arrest the absconding accused.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased, Gunesharam, was a farmer. About six years ago, his wife had died by suicide, and the couple had no children. The two brothers lived together with their elderly mother, the younger brother’s wife, and children in the same household.

Their father had died three years ago, and a dispute over expenses incurred during the father’s funeral rituals had been ongoing between the two. The argument over this old monetary issue is believed to have triggered the violent confrontation.

A case of murder has been registered under relevant sections, and police efforts to locate and arrest Kishanaram are underway. Further action will be taken after recording statements from the family members, the SHO added.
