Auckland, July 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit New Zealand after his trip to Australia, where a significant number of Indian expatriates reside. Conversations with the community reveal a warm eagerness to welcome the Indian Prime Minister. Former New Zealand MP Mahesh Bindra discussed Modi’s visit to Auckland, emphasizing the role of the Indian community in strengthening India-New Zealand partnerships in trade, investment, education, and bilateral relations.
Bindra remarked, “It is an honor for us that after 40 years, a Prime Minister of India is visiting New Zealand. The large Indian community here is filled with joy.” He expressed high hopes for bilateral relations, stating, “It is a matter of pride for us that Modi Ji is coming. We are eagerly awaiting his arrival. This opportunity comes after 40 years; I consider it a significant visit. Relations have been improving over the years, and I believe the friendship will deepen further.”
He also mentioned ongoing efforts to strengthen ties, saying, “I am the president of the New Zealand-India Chamber of Commerce and Industries, contributing to this direction. We have long awaited a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), and I hope there will be further progress in this area.”
Bindra highlighted another point of pride, claiming, “For the first time, India has been officially referred to as ‘Bharat’ in another country, which is a matter of pride for us. Our organization is also named the New Zealand-India Chamber of Commerce and Industries.”
When asked about the changes in business class due to the FTA, Bindra noted that progress in this direction has strengthened mutual trust between the two countries, attributing it to improvements in the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ in India. He stated that doing business in India has become significantly easier over the past 10 to 15 years, creating new opportunities for trade and investment.
