Udaipur : Udaipur witnessed a mammoth turnout at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally at the Khelgaon ground here, as thousands of people poured in from remote and rural areas, shattering all the turnout records for the region. The turnout proved right the decisions of the State BJP men to pick the venue for the rally instead of the conventional rally venue at Gandhi ground inside the city.
According to a rough estimate by the police authorities, the participation crossed the 2 lakh figure. Besides the 5 domes, there were dozens of people perched on trees and mobile towers trying to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister as his helicopter landed near the venue. As feared heavy downpours began as soon as the PM’s chopper landed at the helipad.
Policemen had to make efforts to keep the crowd under control who ran helter skelter to escape the rains. The entire ground was muddy and marshy however, men, women and children walked miles from the parking slots which had been kept some 3 kilometers away from the Sabha Sthal.
