Oslo, May 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with King Harald V of Norway at the Royal Palace in Oslo on May 18. The leaders discussed the remarkable progress made by Indian and Norwegian companies, particularly in the field of new technologies.
During the meeting, PM Modi extended warm wishes on behalf of the people of India to King Harald. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated that Modi praised Norway’s natural beauty and emphasized that the long-standing friendship between India and Norway is based on shared values of democracy, rule of law, and people-centric governance, which continue to strengthen.
Following the meeting, King Harald hosted a lunch in honor of PM Modi, who expressed gratitude for the King’s generous hospitality.
Earlier that morning, PM Modi was awarded the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, Norway’s highest honor. After receiving the award, he remarked, “I feel honored to receive the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit. This honor is dedicated to the people of India and pays tribute to the enduring friendship between India and Norway. It reflects our shared commitment to global progress.”
PM Modi also thanked King Harald and the people of Norway for this recognition. According to the PMO, this award is the highest honor given to foreign heads of government for outstanding service to Norway and humanity.
The PMO added that the award symbolizes the deep goodwill between India and Norway and will guide their friendship and cooperation in the future.
While addressing the media alongside his Norwegian counterpart Jonas Gahr Støre, PM Modi announced that the relationship between India and Norway has been elevated to a Green Strategic Partnership. He stated that this partnership will help both countries’ companies develop global solutions by combining India’s scale, speed, and talent with Norway’s technology and capital.
