Evian, June 17: During the G7 summit in Evian, France, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Tuesday. The two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen India-UK relations.
Prime Minister Modi took to social media platform ‘X’ to express, “Had a very good meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Evian. The relationship between India and the UK has made remarkable progress over the past year. The recent trade agreement has opened up new avenues for economic cooperation. Today’s discussions focused on advancing this partnership.”
He further stated, “We discussed ways to collaborate in innovation, artificial intelligence, skill development, sports, and other areas. We also talked about increasing investments in the interests of both our peoples.”
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the leaders reviewed the rapid progress in India-UK relations following their respective visits to each other’s countries last year. They welcomed advancements in various sectors under the ‘Vision 2035’ framework, including trade and economic development, defense and security, climate change, green energy, technology and innovation, education, and people-to-people connections.
Both leaders expressed hope for the swift implementation of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. They also celebrated the growing collaboration in education, noting that the University of Liverpool has taken steps to establish a campus in Bengaluru, while York University and the University of Bristol are preparing to launch campuses in Mumbai.
Prime Minister Modi thanked Prime Minister Starmer for the UK’s active participation in this year’s AI Impact Summit held in Delhi. He also welcomed the progress under the Technology Security Initiative, which recently included the launch of the India-UK Critical Minerals Global Supply Chain Observatory.
The two leaders shared views on several regional and global issues, including West Asia and Ukraine, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
During the G7 summit, Prime Minister Modi also met with several other global leaders. He mentioned, “The dialogue with world leaders continues at the G7 summit in Evian.” He shared glimpses of his meetings with US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, and other leaders.
