‘No confidence motion pass amid tight security’
Udaipur : Bhinder, a non descript town in Vallabhnagar block of Udaipur district wore a cantonment look on Tuesday as amidst much speculation and anxiety, 16 of the 20-members of the Nagar Palika voted against the chairman Goverdhan Bhoi to pass a No-confidence motion against him. Interestingly, since the announcement of the no-confidence motion proposal, these councilors had gone ‘missing’ and hiding at a secret place no one knew. The board constitutes of total 20 members of which 17 members are of Janata Sena, a local party formed by independent MLA Randhir Singh Bhinder and 3 from Congress. Bhinder had rebelled from BJP when he was denied ticket from VallabhNagar constituency in last assembly elections. He formed the Janta Sena and won as an independent candidate.
With Randhir Singh at loggerheads with Home Minister GulabChand Kataria, it was much speculated that Kataria had been the mastermind behind the entire episode, however, everyone including the MLA was taken aback when the missing councilors arrived with Gajendra Singh Shaktawat, former Congress MLA of Vallabhnagar. Thirteen councilors of the Janta Sena and 3of the Congress voted in favour of the motion thus de-throning the chairman. Much tension had prevailed since morning at the voting spot where dozens of the Janta Sena workers had assembled carrying black flags as a symbol of protest against the motion. They raised slogans against Kataria. Randhir Singh’s wife Deependra Kunwar, also the Vice President of BJP Mahila Prakoshta was present at the Dharna Sthal who condemned Kataria claiming that he had been plotting with the rebels to disturb the Nagar Palika board that had been working smoothly for the progress of the town. Randhir Singh himself was seen appealing to the councilors to step back and deter from voting out their leader, but his efforts were fruitless.
According to sources, a month ago, in a similar stance, Randhir Singh had been instrumental in removal of a congress Pradhan at Bhinder Panchayat Samiti when the members had proposed and passed a motion of no confidence against her. Sources claim, the Congress supporters had waited for a chance to avenge. Meanwhile, at Bhinder Nagar Palika, majority of the board members turned against the chairman for his reported connivance with MLA Randhir Singh to acquire a costly property in the town. This had been the reason for their grunt against the chairman which led to the no confidence motion, sources informed.
