Mumbai, May 15: In the 58th match of IPL 2026, the Mumbai Indians (MI) showcased an impressive performance, defeating the Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six wickets. However, despite this victory, MI’s position in the points table remains unchanged. PBKS, suffering their fifth consecutive loss, continues to hold the fourth position.
After 12 matches, Mumbai Indians have accumulated 8 points, remaining in ninth place and already out of the playoff race. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) leads the table with 16 points from 12 matches, followed closely by Gujarat Titans (GT), who also have 16 points but a lower net run rate. Sunrisers Hyderabad stands third with 14 points from the same number of matches.
Despite their ongoing struggles, PBKS remains in fourth place with 13 points after 12 matches. Chennai Super Kings are fifth with 12 points from 11 matches, while Rajasthan Royals also have 12 points but are in sixth place. Delhi Capitals sit seventh with 10 points, and Kolkata Knight Riders are eighth with 9 points.
In the match played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala, PBKS batted first, scoring 200 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs. Prabhsimran Singh was the top scorer for PBKS with 57 runs, while Azmatullah Omarzai contributed a quick 38 runs off 17 balls.
In response, MI chased down the target of 201 runs in 19.5 overs, losing 4 wickets. Tilak Varma played a sensational innings, scoring 75 runs off 33 balls, remaining not out and leading his team to victory. Ryan Rickelton added 48 runs from 23 balls, hitting 4 fours and 4 sixes, while Will Jacks scored an unbeaten 25 runs off just 10 balls at a strike rate of 250.
