Microsoft says its probing VPN issues with latest Windows 11 update

Microsoft has confirmed that a Windows 11 security update released earlier this month is causing issues with VPN connections and said it is investigating user reports. Security update KB5036893 was released on April 9 for all supported versions of Windows 11.

“After installing the April 2024 security update (KB5036893) or the April 2024 non-security preview update, Windows devices may experience VPN connection errors,” the company says. A solution is currently available. We are working on it and will deliver. Update in future versions.

According to Microsoft, the problem affects not only corporate devices but also home computer users. On the consumer side, a PC with Windows 11 version 23H2. Affected are Windows 11 Version 22H2, Windows 11 Version 21H2, Windows 10 Version 22H2 and Windows 10 Version 21H2.

The company said it is investigating user reports and will provide more information soon, suggesting an immediate fix may be on the way.

Problems with Windows 11 and what to do

Some users have reported that VPN connections with TPM-based certificates stopped working after installing the security patch. Microsoft has not yet disclosed the cause of the problem and advises home users to use the Windows Help program if they need help with their personal accounts. Corporate customers can contact us via a special “Business Support” portal.

In the meantime, a solution is to uninstall the update. However, note that all security fixes are included in one update. So if you delete an update, the last protection is removed from your computer and it becomes vulnerable.
