Mumbai, May 5: In an exciting match at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday evening, the Mumbai Indians (MI) triumphed over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six wickets in IPL 2026. This victory was marked by stellar performances from Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton, making it MI’s largest chase in the tournament.
LSG set a formidable target of 228 runs, thanks to Nicholas Pooran’s explosive innings of 63 runs off just 21 balls. MI’s opening pair of Sharma and Rickelton put on a remarkable partnership, scoring 143 runs in just 10.5 overs for the first wicket. Rickelton scored 83 runs with eight sixes and six fours off 32 balls, while Sharma contributed 84 runs with seven sixes and six fours off 44 balls. Naman Dhir and Will Jacks also chipped in with 23 and 10 runs, respectively, remaining unbeaten. Rickelton was named Player of the Match.
With this win, MI became the second team in IPL history to successfully chase a target of 200 runs or more on multiple occasions, having achieved this feat for the seventh time overall. This season alone, MI has accomplished this milestone twice.
MI has now surpassed the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), both of whom have achieved a 200-plus chase six times. The Punjab Kings hold the record for the most successful 200-plus chases in IPL history, achieving this 11 times, while the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have done so five times.
