Udaipur, June 3 — Marking the completion of his first year in office, Udaipur Lok Sabha MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat addressed the media on Monday and emphasized the pivotal role that Mewar is poised to play in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ — a mission aimed at building a strong, prosperous, and self-reliant India by its 100th year of independence.

During the press conference, Dr. Rawat unveiled the blueprint for a public consultation program titled ‘Samvad 2025’, scheduled for June 8, which will gather expert and citizen inputs to shape the vision for Viksit Mewar 2047.
Mewar’s Heritage and Potential Aligned with National Growth
Dr. Rawat highlighted Mewar’s globally recognized legacy of valor, culture, and heritage, along with its economic pillars—tourism, tribal communities, and transport. He proposed adding three new drivers—technology, trade, and training—to this foundation, ensuring inclusive and sustainable development aligned with PM Modi’s vision, “Virasat Bhi, Vikas Bhi” (Heritage and Development Together).
He emphasized the need to revitalize historical sites linked to Maharana Pratap to boost tourism and economic activity. The region’s 300+ days of sunlight make it ideal for solar energy development, while discussions with ICAR are underway to explore tissue culture techniques to improve the yield of custard apples (sitaphal)—a locally abundant fruit.
Major Projects to Impact Water, Connectivity, and Safety
Dr. Rawat shared updates on critical infrastructure and connectivity efforts:
-
A ₹7,300 crore water project to transport surplus water from the Jakhm Dam over 80 kilometers to water-scarce villages in Udaipur. The project includes reviving two rivers and over a dozen lakes en route.
-
Efforts to link Udaipur with major South Indian cities via direct rail services, aimed at boosting trade and tourism.
-
Addressing rising road accident fatalities (541 deaths in 2,000+ incidents last year), he secured ₹100 crore from the Union Ministry of Road Transport for fixing six identified black spots on the Udaipur–Sirohi highway, with proposals for similar funding on the Udaipur–Ahmedabad highway.
He also noted that proposals for a medical college and Navodaya Vidyalaya in Salumber are progressing and will soon yield positive outcomes.
Public Participation to Shape Policy
The June 8 event, titled “Ek Shaam Rashtra Ke Naam”, will be held at the Atal Auditorium, Hiran Magri Sector 4, Udaipur. It aims to evaluate existing government schemes and gather feedback from local experts and residents to improve implementation. Inputs from Parliament and state legislative discussions on regional issues will also be analyzed to explore new development possibilities.
Development Through DMFT and Skill Initiatives
Dr. Rawat announced that under the District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT) scheme, multiple projects have been sanctioned across Udaipur city, Udaipur rural, Kherwara, Jhadol, and Gogunda constituencies. These include:
-
Skill development programs for youth and women to curb rural migration
-
Distribution of horticulture seeds and fruit-bearing saplings to farmers
-
Installation of math and robotics labs in schools
-
Expansion of irrigation infrastructure, including well deepening and construction of new anicuts
Political Attack on Opposition
In response to a media question, Dr. Rawat criticized opposition parties BAP (Bharatiya Adivasi Party) and BTP, calling them “conspiratorial and externally influenced”. He accused them of encouraging violence and obstructing the region’s progress, citing a recent bribery scandal involving a BAP MLA as evidence of widespread corruption.
“These parties are working against youth empowerment, women’s dignity, and educational progress. They are deliberately trying to destabilize Mewar,” he said.
“Development is a Continuous Process”
Concluding his address, Dr. Rawat stated that development takes time to manifest on the ground, but the initiatives launched in the past year will soon deliver visible benefits for the people of Mewar. He welcomed suggestions from the public and reiterated his commitment to addressing their concerns with transparency and urgency.
