Lucknow, August 3: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has expressed hope that the four-day monsoon session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, starting Monday, will focus on public welfare and issues of general interest.
She emphasized that the session should not succumb to narrow party politics, accusations, and disruptions, but instead serve as a platform for serious discussions on the pressing problems facing the state.
In a post on the social media platform X, Mayawati noted that the monsoon session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly begins today, August 3. Reports indicate that the state government will present a supplementary budget concerning government expenditures in the Assembly on August 4.
Despite the session being brief, she stated that the public expects it to be dedicated to national and public interest, rather than being overshadowed by petty party politics, disputes, and chaos, similar to the current session of Parliament.
Mayawati also pointed out the natural concern among people regarding the short duration of this session. She stressed the importance of ensuring that the legislative body’s constitutional authority is not diminished, holding the bureaucracy accountable to the Constitution and responsible for public welfare.
She questioned whether such a short session could achieve its true purpose or would merely remain a formality. Mayawati highlighted the critical need for a robust legislature to strengthen democracy and curb bureaucratic overreach, calling for serious parliamentary conduct from both the government and the opposition.
