New Delhi, October 23 (Udaipur Kiran): Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat, who rose to fame overnight with the 2004 blockbuster ‘Murder’, continues to inspire many with her journey of courage, self-belief, and discipline. The actress, known for her bold on-screen persona and outspoken nature, revealed that behind the glamour lies a woman who doesn’t drink, smoke, or attend late-night parties — and lives by her own rules.

Born on October 24, 1976, Mallika, who turns 48 this year, still looks as radiant as ever. In a candid conversation, she reflected on her remarkable journey — from a small village in Haryana to the sets of Bollywood and Hollywood.
She shared how her family strongly opposed her decision to pursue acting. “No one supported me when I left home for Mumbai. I had nothing — not even ten rupees in my pocket — but I had determination. No red carpet was waiting for me,” she said.
Mallika began her career in modelling and appeared in television advertisements alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, before landing film roles through auditions.
Her breakthrough came with ‘Murder’ (2004), directed by Abbas-Mustan, which made her a household name. “I never imagined it would be such a big hit,” she recalled. “I grew up watching Bhatt saab’s films. Emraan Hashmi was a gentleman, and even during the bold scenes, I always felt safe.”
However, fame brought its own challenges. Mallika said people often confused her on-screen image with her real personality. “Just because I played bold roles, many assumed I was like that in real life. But I’ve always made it clear — the screen and real life are two different worlds,” she said firmly.
Talking about her lifestyle, Mallika said, “I am a vegetarian. I don’t smoke, I don’t drink, and I don’t attend late-night parties. I sleep early, wake up early, and stay fit through discipline and hard work — not surgery. I’ve never had any plastic surgery.”
The actress also reflected on how the entertainment industry is changing rapidly. “I focus on my work. If you’re true to your craft, people will notice,” she said.
Mallika gained international recognition after appearing alongside Jackie Chan in the film ‘The Myth’ and walking the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. She has also met global leaders like Kamala Harris and Barack Obama during her international career.
Remembering her early years, Mallika said she feels grateful despite the struggles. “My family never said they were proud of me — that’s something that still hurts. But I’ve built my life on my own terms,” she added.
For young women from Haryana, she shared a message of perseverance: “Dream big, but more importantly, fight for your dreams. Determination is everything.”
Mallika’s career began with a small role in ‘Jeena Sirf Mere Liye’ (2002), but it was ‘Murder’ that turned her into a star. She later appeared in hit films like ‘Welcome’, among others, and remains one of the most outspoken actresses in Indian cinema — an artist who continues to live life with courage, conviction, and class.
