Major Action Over Collusion With Gravel Mafia: 5 SHOs Suspended, 6 Sent to Lines

Jaipur, December 22 (Udaipur Kiran): In one of its strictest actions so far against illegal mining and police negligence, the Vigilance Wing of Rajasthan Police Headquarters has taken major disciplinary action against erring officers across the state. Acting under the direction of Additional Director General of Police (Vigilance) S. Sengathir, a statewide decoy operation led to the suspension of five station house officers (SHOs), while six others were sent to police lines for serious dereliction of duty and alleged involvement in illegal gravel mining.

SHOs Suspended

ADG Sengathir said that on the instructions of Police Headquarters, 11 special teams conducted covert decoy operations on December 18 and 19 across various districts. Posing as ordinary citizens, the teams assessed police station functioning, naka bandi, and patrolling arrangements. The operation revealed that in several police stations, illegal transportation of gravel was being ignored and duty responsibilities were being handled with gross negligence.

Police stations under action
Based on the findings, Police Headquarters took strict action on December 21. SHOs of Shivdaspura (Jaipur South), Peeplu and Baroni (Tonk), Pisangan (Ajmer), and Kotwali (Dholpur) were suspended with immediate effect.

Additionally, SHOs of Gulabpura (Bhilwara), Kunhadi and Nanta (Kota City), Lalsot (Dausa), Gangrar (Chittorgarh), and Luni (Jodhpur West) were sent to police lines. Departmental inquiries have been ordered against all of them.

No place for helpers of gravel mafia
Police Headquarters issued a clear message that any collusion or negligence by police personnel in illegal gravel mining, transportation, or storage will not be tolerated. District Superintendents of Police have been directed to ensure swift disciplinary action against the guilty.

Further, instructions have been issued from PHQ to the Inspector Generals of Jaipur, Kota, Bharatpur, and Ajmer ranges to initiate disciplinary proceedings against 15 police personnel from 11 police stations found guilty during the operation.

Focus beyond mining violations
Earlier in November, the Vigilance Wing had also carried out a large-scale decoy operation focusing on issues such as failure to register zero FIRs, misbehaviour with complainants, laxity in handling cybercrime complaints, functioning of complaint sections at SP offices, patrolling systems of SHOs, and insensitive behaviour towards women at police help desks.
