Shimla, October 23 (Udaipur Kiran) — Light snowfall was reported once again in the high-altitude and tribal regions of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday night, blanketing the mountain peaks with a thin layer of snow. In contrast, the lower regions of the state witnessed varying weather conditions, with fog in some areas, cloudy skies in others, and bright sunshine providing brief relief from the cold elsewhere.

In the state capital Shimla, light clouds appeared on Thursday morning, while Sundernagar in Mandi district and Bilaspur experienced dense fog, reducing visibility and forcing vehicles to move slowly. In Kangra, Solan, and Hamirpur districts, the morning remained clear and slightly chilly.
According to the Meteorological Department, parts of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Kullu, and Chamba districts may see light snowfall today. However, the department has forecast generally clear weather across the state for the next six days, till October 29. After that, another western disturbance is likely to become active, which could bring another round of rain and snowfall by the end of the month.
This season, Himachal Pradesh has already recorded two instances of snowfall — the first in the first week of October and the second after Diwali. Both events led to a sharp drop in temperature, not only in the higher regions but also in the plains.
As per the latest report from the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, the state’s average minimum temperature dropped by 0.3°C on Thursday. The coldest location was Kukumseri in Lahaul-Spiti, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 0.3°C. In the same district, Tabo recorded 2.5°C, while Kalpa in Kinnaur reported 5.2°C and Reckong Peo 8.6°C.
Among tourist destinations, Manali registered 7.2°C, Narkanda 8.1°C, Kufri 9.8°C, and Shimla 11.5°C. In other regions, Dharamshala recorded 11.8°C, Palampur 12°C, Solan 12.2°C, Jubbarhatti 14.2°C, Kangra 15.2°C, Hamirpur 16°C, Bilaspur 17.1°C, and Paonta Sahib 18°C.
The weather office further stated that no major western disturbance is currently active, meaning clear skies and sunny days are expected to continue. However, morning and evening temperatures will remain low, and nights in the hilly regions may become even colder in the coming days.
