Dubai, June 30, 2024: In a momentous decision, Indian cricket legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from T20 International cricket following India’s victory in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa.

During the post-match press conference, an emotional Rohit Sharma expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to represent India in T20Is. “This was my last game too. There can’t be a better time to say goodbye. I wanted this (trophy) badly. It’s very difficult to put it into words,” he said.
Virat Kohli’s Last Hurrah
Echoing Rohit’s sentiments, Virat Kohli, who was named the Player of the Match for his stellar 76-run knock in the final, stated, “This was my last T20 match, so played accordingly. Now, the new generation should take over.”

Rohit Sharma leaves behind an illustrious T20I career, having amassed the second-highest number of runs (1,220) in T20 World Cup history, only behind Virat Kohli. He also holds the record for the most fifties (32) and five centuries in T20Is.

Virat Kohli, the epitome of T20 cricket, remains the all-time leading run-scorer in T20 World Cup history with 1,292 runs. Throughout his 125 T20I matches for India, Kohli has amassed 4,188 runs at an average of 48.69 and a strike rate of 137.04. His 39 fifty-plus scores are the most in T20I cricket.
