Kieron Pollard to Miss SA20 Season with Joburg Super Kings
Kieron Pollard has informed the Joburg Super Kings he will not play in the upcoming SA20 season.

Kieron Pollard has officially notified the Joburg Super Kings of his unavailability for the forthcoming SA20 season. This announcement follows his recent appointment as head coach of the Mumbai Indians.
Pollard’s decision alleviates potential complications from his dual roles. An insider from Mumbai Indians stated, “It’s up to KP on the matter. We have given no instructions.” Pollard was acquired by the Joburg Super Kings for R1.5 million in a recent auction, where the Mumbai franchise opted not to bid for him.
The MI management’s choice to pursue Shimron Hetmyer instead of Pollard drew attention. An MI source explained the auction order dictated their decision, stating, “It all depended on the auction order. We could not have waited for Pollard.” Pollard joined the Mumbai franchise in 2010 and contributed to their five championship wins before retiring from the IPL in 2022.
According to Kasi Viswanathan, CEO of CSK and its franchises, “He has conveyed to us that he will not be able to play for Joburg Super Kings.” The franchise is now searching for a replacement player.
Pollard’s head coach position at MI was finalized just days before his announcement. The MI management believes Pollard’s experience and respect within the team make him a suitable leader. Nita Ambani emphasized Pollard’s journey with the team, reflecting on his impact as a player and coach.
Pollard’s connections with players like Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma may influence future decisions regarding trades and leadership roles within MI, though such speculation remains unverified.
