Tehran, January 18 – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has asserted that Iran has once again defeated a conspiracy supported by the United States and Israel. He stated that the plot instigated by Washington and Tel Aviv has been completely foiled by Iran.
Speaking on a religious occasion, Khamenei accused the US of planning to create unrest in Iran with the intention of bringing the country under its control.
According to the news agency Xinhua, he described US President Donald Trump as a “criminal” responsible for the killings and destruction during recent riots in Iran. Khamenei said Trump openly supported the rioters and even spoke about providing military assistance.
Khamenei emphasized that Iran does not seek war but will not hesitate to punish those causing unrest both inside and outside the country.
This statement comes as protests in Iran, which began weeks ago over economic issues in late December, appear to be declining. The demonstrations later turned violent.
Iranian officials claim that peaceful protests were turned violent by antisocial elements. The semi-official Tasnim news agency reported on Friday that security forces have detained nearly 3,000 people in connection with the disturbances.
Following an improvement in the situation, mobile messaging services were restored from Saturday. Iranian media also reported that schools will reopen from Sunday after being closed for a week.
On the same day, Lebanon’s Hezbollah expressed support for Iran. In a televised address on the Hezbollah-controlled Al-Manar channel, leader Naim Qassem called Iran a strong force of resistance and accused the US of trying to dominate the world.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned comments by the Group of Seven countries, calling them interference in Iran’s internal affairs and demanding that the G7 stop such actions.
