Bridgetown, July 21: West Indies fast bowler Kemar Roach has reached a significant milestone by claiming his 300th Test wicket during a match against Sri Lanka. Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced a formal ceremony to honor this historic achievement.
The fifth and final ODI match between West Indies and New Zealand will take place on Tuesday at Kensington Oval, where the celebration will occur during the innings break. Representatives from CWI, the Barbados government, and the Barbados Cricket Association will join in the festivities to celebrate Roach’s accomplishment.
Recently, Roach became the fifth West Indian and the second Barbadian player to achieve the remarkable feat of 300 Test wickets. This achievement places him among the elite group of Caribbean bowlers, which includes legends such as Courtney Walsh (519), Sir Curtly Ambrose (405), Malcolm Marshall (376), and Lance Gibbs (305).
CWI President Kishore Shallow expressed his admiration, stating, “For over two decades, Kemar has represented the West Indies with distinction. Whenever he has worn the maroon cap, he has displayed exceptional skill, passion, and determination. He has been one of the finest ambassadors for Caribbean cricket and an inspiration for many generations of young fast bowlers. Personally, I am delighted to witness a player of this generation whose unwavering commitment and extraordinary contributions have secured him a rightful place among our sport’s greats. On behalf of Cricket West Indies, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Kemar for this remarkable achievement. This honor is well-deserved and reflects his profound impact on West Indies cricket.”
Kemar Roach made his Test debut against Bangladesh in 2009 and has established himself as a key player in the bowling attack with his excellent control, late movement, and consistent accuracy. Over 89 Test matches, he has taken 300 wickets at an average of 26.83, which includes 12 instances of achieving a ‘five-wicket haul.’ Roach has also taken ten wickets in a single match.
