Darwin, August 15: Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has achieved a significant milestone during the Test match against Bangladesh in Darwin. He has completed 300 wickets in Test cricket.
In Bangladesh’s first innings, Hazlewood took 6 wickets for 89 runs in 28 overs, reaching the 300-wicket mark with his fifth wicket. This marks the 14th occasion that Hazlewood has taken 5 or more wickets in a single innings. He now has 301 wickets from 144 innings in 77 matches, with his best performance being 6 wickets for 61 runs.
Hazlewood is now the ninth Australian bowler to reach the 300 Test wickets milestone. He joins the ranks of Shane Warne (708), Nathan Lyon (568), Glenn McGrath (563), Mitchell Starc (435), Dennis Lillee (355), Pat Cummins (316), Mitchell Johnson (313), and Brett Lee (310). Currently, only Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins are active alongside Hazlewood, all of whom are key members of the Australian Test team in this match.
However, Australia’s position in the Test match appears precarious. They were bowled out for just 198 runs in their first innings, with Steve Smith scoring the highest at 71 runs. Hasan Mahmud took the most wickets for Bangladesh, claiming 6 wickets.
Bangladesh dominated with the bat as well, scoring 426 runs in their first innings and taking a crucial lead of 228 runs, which could prove decisive. Tanjid Hasan scored 101 runs, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed 84, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz added 65 runs. This was Hasan’s first century and the highest score by any Bangladeshi batsman in a Test match played in Australia.
Australia’s batting faltered again in their second innings, losing 3 wickets for just 100 runs in 27 overs at the time of reporting, with Smith on 37 and Cameron Green on 9 runs.
