Jio Platforms Begins Trading on Mumbai Stock Exchange After $3.2 Billion IPO
Jio Platforms has launched its trading debut in Mumbai after raising $3.2 billion in its initial public offering, the largest in India.

MUMBAI, Oct 28: Jio Platforms commenced trading on the Mumbai Stock Exchange after raising $3.2 billion in India’s largest initial public offering. The IPO attracted bids totaling $77 billion, reflecting strong investor interest. Brokers described Jio’s valuation at $108.3 billion as appealing despite concerns about competition and heavy capital expenditures.
Currently, Jio Platforms has a grey market premium of ₹246, indicating a potential listing gain of about 22%. Based on this premium, the estimated opening share price is around ₹1,365, compared to the upper price band of ₹1,119. Investors should note that grey market prices are unofficial and can fluctuate.
Analysts are closely monitoring Jio’s IPO performance to gauge market appetite for significant public offerings, especially amid increased scrutiny on stocks related to artificial intelligence. Many have pointed to potential risks, including regulatory shifts in the telecom sector.
With 246 IPOs this year, India leads globally in the number of offerings, though it ranks fourth in total capital raised at $13.5 billion, behind the U.S., mainland China, and Hong Kong. Jio’s offering is significant for shaping the market’s direction.
“Jio’s valuation is attractive,” a broker noted, while cautioning about increased competition.
