Jharkhand CID Arrests Five More in JPSC Scandal

Ranchi, August 6: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Jharkhand has intensified its investigation into alleged irregularities in the 14th Joint Civil Services Examination conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), leading to the arrest of five more suspects.

Among those arrested are the computer operator of former JPSC chairman L. Khiangte, three students, and another individual. With these latest arrests, the total number of accused apprehended in this case has risen to 19.

Previously, on August 4, the CID had arrested Umesh Kumar, Budheshwar Bhagat, and Ramesh Kumar, acting under CID case number 16/26, dated July 22, 2026. The agency claims that the arrested individuals are linked to efforts aimed at influencing the examination process and are connected to the alleged irregularities.

The CID is actively progressing with the investigation based on electronic evidence, documents, and interrogations. Sources indicate that the scope of the investigation may expand further following these recent arrests, with additional individuals being questioned.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister met with Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar and stated that the government is open to discussions and will seriously consider the demands of the students. He emphasized, “No injustice will be done to the youth. If necessary, discussions will also be held with the Union Home Minister on this issue.”

In a statement from the Raj Bhavan, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar highlighted the need for transparency and fairness in recruitment examinations to maintain the trust of the youth. He stressed that the functioning of recruitment commissions should be beyond reproach.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren reassured the Governor of the government’s commitment to a fair investigation and ensuring justice for the students.
