Srinagar, June 18: Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has reportedly terminated the services of a government employee due to alleged connections with terrorists. The employee, Mohammad Shafi, worked as an inspector in the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (PDD) and was dismissed following orders from the LG.
Officials stated that Shafi’s dismissal was effective immediately due to his purported links with terrorist organizations. Since the beginning of this year, the LG administration has dismissed approximately 90 government employees found to have connections with terrorist groups.
Shafi, a 51-year-old resident of Arwani village in Bijbehara, was named in three FIRs registered between 2017 and 2018 at the Bijbehara police station under various sections of the Ranbir Penal Code and the Arms Act. He is the ninth government employee to be removed this year.
In January, five employees were dismissed, followed by three more in March, as part of a broader effort by the Jammu and Kashmir administration to remove individuals with alleged terrorist affiliations and anti-national activities. Since 2019, a total of 91 government employees have been dismissed under similar circumstances.
These dismissals are conducted under Article 311(2)(c) of the Constitution, which allows the LG administration to take action in the interest of state security without formal departmental inquiries. The administration has been working to identify and remove government employees involved in activities deemed harmful to national security.
Security and intelligence agencies compile dossiers detailing the alleged involvement of these employees, which may include providing logistical and financial support to insurgents.
