Jaishankar Meets Indian Community in Doha, Praises Their Contributions

New Delhi, July 6: During his visit to Qatar, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with representatives of the Indian community in Doha. He praised their contributions to Qatari society, stating that their experiences and suggestions will play a crucial role in strengthening the ties between the two countries.

Jaishankar shared on the social media platform ‘X’, “Had a good meeting with representatives of the Indian community in Qatar on Sunday evening. We emphasized that the welfare of the Indian community is always a key priority in our relations with this region. Their dedication and contributions to Qatari society during these challenging times are truly commendable and are being appreciated everywhere.”

He further noted that their insights are vital for enhancing the India-Qatar partnership.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Jaishankar is on an official visit to Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman from July 5 to July 10. The purpose of this tour is to strengthen India’s relations with these four countries, discuss regional conditions, and address issues of mutual interest.

On Sunday, Jaishankar also met with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. Both leaders discussed various areas of cooperation between India and Qatar and explored new opportunities to further strengthen their strategic partnership.

Jaishankar expressed his gratitude to the Qatari Prime Minister for ensuring the safety and well-being of Indian nationals. He mentioned that they reviewed several aspects of bilateral cooperation, including energy, trade, investment, connectivity, security, and people-to-people relations, while also discussing new opportunities to enhance their strategic partnership. He appreciated the Prime Minister’s insights on ongoing conflicts in West Asia and their impacts.

India and Qatar have enjoyed strong relations for a long time, rooted in historical trade ties and robust connections between their peoples. Diplomatic relations were established in 1973, and 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of these relations.
