The dynamic duo of Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan shattered a 19-year-old record by establishing the highest partnership for India in a knockout match of the T20 World Cup.
Samson and Kishan put on a remarkable display at the Wankhede Stadium, scoring 97 runs for the second wicket in just 45 balls. This partnership is now the largest for any wicket by India in T20 World Cup knockout matches, surpassing the previous record held by Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa, who had scored 84 runs against Australia in the 2007 semifinal.
Ishan Kishan showcased his explosive batting skills, scoring 39 runs off just 18 balls with a strike rate of 216, including four fours and two sixes before being dismissed by Adil Rashid. However, Abhishek Sharma struggled again, managing only 9 runs from 7 balls, marking his third dismissal against off-spinners in the T20 World Cup 2026.
The Indian team did not make any changes to their playing eleven for the semifinal, while England replaced Rehan Ahmed with Jamie Overton in their lineup. This marks the third consecutive T20 World Cup semifinal clash between India and England. Previously, India won by 68 runs in the 2024 semifinal, while England defeated India by 10 wickets in the 2022 semifinal.
