Apple is expected to unveil its iPhone 16 series in the coming months. A new report from the supplier confirms the rumors about the main camera upgrade of the iPhone 16 Pro models. The Cupertino-based tech giant introduced the tetraprism periscope lens last year with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which offers excellent zoom (5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom).
This camera upgrade was exclusive to last year’s most expensive iPhone models. However, the company is now reportedly planning to close the gap in camera features between the Pro and Pro Max models of its iPhone 16 series.
Apple may have chosen the primary supplier of the iPhone 16 Pro’s periscope lenses
According to a report by DigiTimes Asia, industry sources have reported that Apple is expanding the use of periscope lenses in the iPhone 16 series. To meet this demand, the company is expected to rely on two major Taiwanese suppliers: Largan Precision, which supplied periscope lenses for the iPhone 15 Pro Max last year, and newcomer Genius Electronic Optical (GSEO).
This discrepancy suggests that Apple may be trying to increase production of this advanced camera technology or ensure a more competitive price.
Previously, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo made a similar claim in October 2023. A new report appears to provide further evidence of an upgrade.
Apple iPhone 16 Series Coming in September: More Expected Updates
There are also rumors that the next iPhone 16 series could ditch the physical buttons and replace them with touch-sensitive buttons with haptic feedback. The camera switches to a vertical layout and the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models may feature an “action button” previously only found on the Pro models.
On the software side, the iPhone 16 will ship with the recently announced iOS 18, the base model with the A18 chip and the Pro model is expected to come with the A18 Pro chip. The screen refresh rate has also been improved and the Pro model may be larger. An improvement in battery life is also expected for the iPhone 16 series.
