Indian Stock Market Recovers with Sensex Gaining 50 Points

Mumbai, May 13: The Indian stock market showed a slight recovery on Wednesday, marking the end of a four-day decline amid mixed signals from global markets. The Sensex closed up by 49.74 points or 0.07 percent at 74,608.98, while the Nifty 50 gained 33.05 points or 0.14 percent, closing at 23,412.60.

During the day, the 30-share BSE Sensex opened at 74,439.34, reaching an intraday high of 75,191.57 and a low of 74,134.48. The Nifty 50 opened at 23,362.45, hitting a day’s high of 23,582.95 and a low of 23,262.55.

Broader markets outperformed the key benchmarks, with the Nifty Midcap index rising by 0.77 percent and the Nifty Smallcap index by 0.31 percent.

Sector-wise, the Nifty IT and Nifty Auto indices saw the most significant declines, dropping by 1.13 percent and 0.97 percent, respectively. In contrast, the Nifty Metal index surged by 3.18 percent, while the Nifty Consumer Durable and Nifty Oil & Gas indices rose by 1.67 percent and 1.28 percent, respectively. Gains were also noted in the Nifty Healthcare, Nifty FMCG, and Nifty Pharma sectors.

Among the top gainers on the Nifty 50 were shares of Asian Paints, Adani Enterprises, Tata Steel, Hindalco, BEL, Adani Ports, and Cipla. Conversely, the most significant losses were observed in shares of Eicher Motors, M&M, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Sun Pharma, PowerGrid, and TCS.

The total market capitalization of BSE-listed companies increased from ₹456.3 lakh crore in the previous session to approximately ₹458.6 lakh crore, resulting in a gain of over ₹2 lakh crore for investors in a single session.
