Indian Railways’ Unique Initiative for Digital Mahakumbh 2025: QR Code on Staff Jackets to Facilitate Ticketing

Mahakumbh Nagar, January 3  – In a first-of-its-kind move aimed at making the Mahakumbh 2025 a grand, divine, and fully digital event, the Indian Railways has introduced an innovative ticketing solution. To simplify ticket booking for pilgrims, North Central Railway’s Prayagraj division will implement a digital system where QR codes printed on the jackets of railway staff will facilitate hassle-free ticket booking.

Mahakumbh 2025

This initiative is expected to eliminate the need for pilgrims to wait in long queues at railway stations, ensuring a faster and more convenient experience for millions attending the grand event. The effort is part of the government’s commitment to creating a “Digital Mahakumbh” under its Digital India campaign.

QR Code Jackets for Easy Ticket Booking

Explaining the initiative, Amit Malviya, Senior PRO of Prayagraj Railway Division, shared that during Mahakumbh, commercial department staff will be deployed at Prayagraj Junction wearing green jackets with QR codes printed on the back. Pilgrims can scan these QR codes using their smartphones to directly download the UTS Mobile App, which allows them to book unreserved tickets without standing in queues.

The mobile app offers a seamless ticketing experience by enabling digital payments, ensuring that pilgrims can purchase tickets quickly and conveniently.

Long Queues a Thing of the Past

This digital initiative is expected to significantly reduce crowd congestion at ticket counters during the Mahakumbh. With over millions of pilgrims expected to visit Prayagraj for the holy event, the QR code-enabled jackets will allow passengers to book their tickets independently, bypassing the long queues.

“Railway staff wearing QR code jackets will be stationed at key points within railway premises, guiding pilgrims in ticket booking and offering support for other railway services,” said Malviya. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with the broader goal of ensuring a smooth and hassle-free travel experience for devotees attending Mahakumbh.

A Major Step Towards Digital India

The Prayagraj Railway Division’s initiative is a significant step in supporting the “Digital India” vision, spearheaded by the government. By leveraging digital technology in a large-scale public event like Mahakumbh, Indian Railways aims to set a benchmark in smart transportation and public convenience.

In addition to QR code-enabled jackets, Indian Railways has also launched a toll-free number, a dedicated website, and the Mahakumbh Mela mobile app to assist visitors. These digital tools are designed to provide real-time updates, travel information, and other essential services to pilgrims.

Enhanced Experience for Pilgrims

With digital ticketing, improved infrastructure, and innovative solutions, the Mahakumbh 2025 promises to offer a unique and enhanced experience for devotees. The QR code jackets will not only make ticketing faster but also ensure minimal physical contact in line with modern public safety measures. Pilgrims can also use the UTS mobile app for cashless transactions, further promoting the cashless economy initiative.
