Indian Navy’s Operation Demo: Two Marine Commandos Collide Mid-Air During Final Rehearsal, Rescued from Sea

New Delhi, January 3  – The Indian Navy is all set to mesmerize the citizens of Andhra Pradesh with a spectacular operational demonstration at RK Beach, Visakhapatnam, on January 4. However, during the final rehearsal, an unexpected incident occurred when two Marine Commandos (MARCOS) collided mid-air during a high-altitude combat free-fall and got entangled in their parachutes, leading them to plunge into the sea. Thanks to the swift response of the Navy rescue boat, both commandos were promptly rescued without any major injuries.

Showcasing India’s Naval Supremacy

The event promises to showcase the cutting-edge capabilities of the Indian Navy, including performances by warships, submarines, aircraft, and the Navy band. This year’s program will feature high-speed maneuvers by various types of warships, aerial displays by fixed-wing maritime aircraft and helicopters, and live demonstrations of amphibious assaults, slithering operations, and MARCOS combat free-fall.

Speaking on the occasion, a senior Navy official remarked, “Operation Demo is a flagship outreach initiative that underscores the Indian Navy’s unwavering readiness to protect the nation’s maritime interests. It also serves to strengthen our bond with the people of Andhra Pradesh.”

Grand Event with Notable Guests

The event will be graced by the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu as the chief guest. The program will be hosted by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, the Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command. Extensive preparations have been made with close coordination between the Eastern Naval Command, state government, and city administration to ensure a flawless execution of the grand display.

High-Octane Rehearsals Completed

Preliminary rehearsals for the event were conducted on December 28 and 29, with the final rehearsal held on January 2 evening. Thousands of spectators gathered at RK Beach to witness the final run-through. During the rehearsal, the MARCOS commandos were performing a combat free-fall from several thousand feet when they accidentally collided mid-air, resulting in a dramatic fall into the sea. The quick action of the rescue team prevented any casualties, ensuring that the event remained on track.
