New Delhi, February 14: Former Indian cricket team spinner R. Ashwin expressed optimism regarding the return of Abhishek Sharma for the upcoming match against Pakistan. Ashwin noted that Sanju Samson had a quick start in the previous match against Namibia but emphasized that the team is likely hoping for Abhishek’s comeback.
On his YouTube channel, Ashwin commented, “Sanju Samson is searching for runs. His mind seems cluttered with many thoughts. The team supported him in Abhishek Sharma’s absence, but I believe India is expecting Abhishek’s return. He is a significant player for India.”
Regarding Samson’s dismissal against Namibia, Ashwin remarked, “He just tapped the ball to the fielder. It seemed like his mind wasn’t very clear. He didn’t expect the ball to be there. Such a mental state can affect any player. It’s essential to focus on this. If I were in his position, I would advise him not to overthink and play fearlessly. That’s all I would say to him.”
Sanju Samson was included in India’s playing eleven against Namibia due to Abhishek Sharma’s unavailability caused by an infection. Samson made a quick start, scoring 22 runs off 8 balls with three sixes and a four. However, he misjudged a short ball from Ben Shikongo and was caught at the boundary by Lauren Steinkamp. Despite a promising start, Samson missed another opportunity to play a significant innings, which could have helped him regain his lost confidence.
India’s next match is scheduled against Pakistan on Sunday in Colombo. If Abhishek Sharma is not fit, Samson may once again get a chance in the playing eleven.
