New Delhi, May 1: The Indian cricket team has secured the third position in the latest ICC Men’s Test team rankings following the annual update. This change has allowed India to surpass England.
In the annual ranking update, all matches played since May 2025 are given full weight, while the results of older matches are reduced to 50 percent impact. This update has led to significant changes in the rankings just below the top two teams, benefiting India.
Australia remains firmly at the top with 131 rating points, having increased its lead by three points. The current World Test Champion, South Africa, holds the second position with 119 rating points.
India has claimed the third spot with 104 points, while England has dropped to fourth with 102 rating points. England’s decline is attributed to the loss of benefits from several older series results, including past victories against New Zealand and South Africa at home, as well as a series win in Pakistan. These matches are now outside the full-weight timeframe.
New Zealand remains in fifth place with 101 rating points, while Pakistan has climbed to sixth, benefiting from the diminishing impact of past defeats. Sri Lanka has slipped to seventh place. The rest of the top ten teams remain unchanged, with West Indies, Bangladesh, and Ireland positioned eighth, ninth, and tenth respectively. Ireland has fallen out of the rankings due to insufficient matches played during the evaluation period.
Despite achieving third place in the annual update, the Indian cricket team currently sits sixth in the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27, with a points percentage (PCT) of 48.15. This is due to losses in the home series against South Africa and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy during their tour of Australia. Australia leads with a PCT of 87.50, followed by New Zealand at 77.78.
