New Delhi, August 14 (Udaipur Kiran) – The first T20 match between India and Bangladesh, which was initially scheduled to be played in Dharamshala, will now be held in Gwalior. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made this announcement on Tuesday night.
The board stated in a press release that the venue change was necessary due to ongoing renovation work in the dressing rooms by the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association.
The match, still scheduled for October 6, will now be the first international match at the newly built Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium. This will also be the first international match in Gwalior since Sachin Tendulkar scored a double century in an ODI against South Africa.
The venues for the first and second T20I matches against England have also been changed. While the dates remain the same (January 22 and 25), the first match will now be played in Kolkata instead of Chennai. The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, which was initially set to host the first match, will now host the second T20I.
The BCCI explained that the venue change was necessary following a request from Kolkata Police to the Cricket Association of Bengal, citing their pre-Republic Day commitments and obligations.
