Nicosia, August 8: India’s High Commissioner to Cyprus, Manish, met with Cyprus’s Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection, Nicholas A. Ionides, on Friday to discuss progress on finalizing the India-Cyprus Migration and Mobility Agreement.
The Indian High Commission in Cyprus shared on the social media platform ‘X’ that High Commissioner Manish engaged with Deputy Minister Ionides and Permanent Secretary Charalambos Rousos.
During the meeting, the High Commissioner highlighted the significant contributions of Indian professionals and workers to Cyprus’s economy and society. He emphasized the importance of fair treatment and welfare for Indians residing in Cyprus.
Manish also raised concerns regarding issues faced by some Indian employees and discussed strengthening safe, legal, and skill-based mobility between India and Cyprus.
Both sides agreed to expedite the finalization of the agreement within the stipulated timeframe, a goal previously endorsed by the leaders of both countries during Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides’ visit to India in May 2026.
They stressed the necessity of a clear, legal, and reliable framework for the movement of people. Ionides assured that his ministry would continue to collaborate to address the concerns of Indian workers in Cyprus.
The Deputy Minister also thanked the High Commissioner for the invitation to the ‘Namaste Cyprus 2026’ program and confirmed his participation.
The High Commission stated, “This meeting reflects the shared commitment of India and Cyprus to strengthen their partnership and promote mutual relations among their peoples.”
