New Delhi, May 1: Preparations for the India-Africa Forum Summit have gained momentum as Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, met with a delegation from the African Union (AU) Commission on Friday. The delegation was led by Willy Nyamitwe, the AU Permanent Representative Committee Chair and Burundi’s Ambassador to India.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the meeting focused on strengthening multifaceted relations between India and Africa and detailed discussions on the upcoming fourth India-Africa Forum Summit.
Kirti Vardhan Singh expressed his satisfaction on social media platform X, stating, “It was a pleasure to meet the African Union Commission delegation led by Willy Nyamitwe. We had positive discussions on India-Africa relations and preparations for the upcoming India-Africa Forum Summit. The India-Africa partnership is a vital pillar of South-South cooperation.”
India will host the fourth India-Africa Forum Summit in New Delhi on May 31, in collaboration with the African Union Commission. Leaders from African nations, members of the AU Commission, and representatives from regional organizations will participate in the summit.
The summit aims to further strengthen the India-Africa partnership and develop new frameworks for cooperation across various sectors. This year’s theme is “IA Spirit: Strategic Partnership for Innovation, Resilience, and Inclusive Transformation,” reflecting the depth of India-Africa relations.
Prior to the summit, a meeting of senior officials will be held on May 28, followed by a meeting of India-Africa foreign ministers on May 29, where key areas of cooperation will be discussed.
The Ministry stated that the India-Africa Forum Summit serves as an important platform to enhance dialogue with African countries and the AU Commission, based on principles of mutual respect, equality, solidarity, and shared prosperity.
According to the ministry, following the last summit, there was a significant expansion in India’s development assistance and capacity-building programs for Africa. The upcoming summit is expected to further strengthen the friendship, cooperation, and South-South partnership between India and Africa.
