IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Several States

New Delhi, May 12, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) — The pre-monsoon season is expected to intensify across the country, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a heavy rain alert for multiple states between May 12 and May 15.

Following the arrival of pre-monsoon conditions, weather patterns have started changing in several parts of the country, leading to fresh spells of rainfall and fluctuating temperatures. Weather experts had earlier predicted a good monsoon season in 2026 after strong rainfall activity during the 2025 monsoon season, although the possibility of El Niño impact still remains.

According to the weather department, heavy rainfall is likely in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mahe, Yanam, Karaikal, Rayalaseema, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal, Odisha, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh during the four-day period.

The department has also predicted widespread rainfall activity in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Marathwada, Konkan, Goa, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha.

The weather department has further warned of strong winds, thunderstorms, lightning and dust storms in several rain-affected regions across northwest, west, east, central, south and northeast India during the same period.

According to the department, wind speeds in different regions may range between 30 and 60 kilometres per hour. Some hilly areas may also witness hailstorms along with rainfall activity.
