Mumbai, March 29, 2025 – Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan is all set to step behind the camera as he takes on the directorial reins for Krrish 4, the next chapter in India’s most successful superhero franchise. The announcement was made on Friday by veteran filmmaker and Hrithik’s father, Rakesh Roshan, who had helmed the previous three films in the franchise. The move marks a significant turning point in Hrithik’s illustrious career, and for many in the industry, it’s a decision that has been a long time coming.

Hrithik’s Direction Dreams Were Always in Sight
While Hrithik dazzled audiences with his on-screen charm since Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai in 2000, his cinematic journey actually began behind the camera. As a teenager, he worked as an assistant director on films like Karan Arjun and Koyla, both directed by his father. Even during his debut, Hrithik took an active role in the post-production process, shaping scenes at the editing table.
Over the years, whispers of his desire to direct surfaced multiple times. In 2012, Hrithik denied directing Krrish 2, stating, “Direction will happen as and when, and if it has to.” That “when” is now — nearly 25 years after his debut.
Industry Recognition as a Natural Filmmaker
The idea that Hrithik possesses a director’s instinct is not new to those who’ve worked with him. Director Siddharth Anand, who collaborated with Hrithik on Fighter, Bang Bang, and War, described him as a “closet filmmaker.” Anand told MidDay, “Hrithik doesn’t just act — he elevates the entire scene for everyone involved.”
Hrithik’s directorial spark became evident when he helmed a stylish ad campaign for Arrow in 2023, sharing, “From 25 years of being in front of the camera, I have stepped behind it.”
Rakesh Roshan’s Baton Pass and Krrish 4’s Future
Rakesh Roshan, now in his 70s, has been gradually stepping away from active direction. In a recent interview, he shared his intent to “pass on the baton” while he could still guide the process. That guiding hand now supports Hrithik as he takes control of Krrish 4, with both Rakesh Roshan and Aditya Chopra backing the project.
In his official announcement on Instagram, Rakesh wrote,
“Duggu, 25 years back I launched you as an actor, and today again after 25 years you are being launched as a director by two filmmakers — Aditya Chopra & myself — to take forward our most ambitious film #Krrish4.”
A Franchise Set for Evolution
The Krrish franchise — beginning with Koi… Mil Gaya (2003), followed by Krrish (2006) and Krrish 3 (2013) — has long been a cornerstone of Indian superhero cinema. With Krrish 4, expectations are soaring, especially with Hrithik now in charge of both performance and direction.
This transition not only promises a fresh cinematic vision but also cements Hrithik Roshan’s role as a true auteur in Bollywood — one who is ready to define the next generation of Indian blockbusters.
