Earlier this year, Honor unveiled an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) technology that could reportedly reduce the risk of nearsightedness and farsightedness in people. Additionally, the company claimed that people who already have the condition may be able to recover from the disease. The company has now confirmed that a feature called Defocus Eye Protection has been added to the Honor MagicPad 2 and Honor V3. These were presented worldwide at the current international radio exhibition (IFA Berlin) 2024.
The defocus eye protection feature has been added to MagicPad 2 and Magic V3
This feature was first introduced at Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2024. Defocus Eye Protection is an artificial intelligence-based display technology. This is a real medical technique also known as defocused eye protection. Originally added to prescription glasses, these glasses use peripheral, non-focusing lenses that have been shown in various studies to reduce and control nearsightedness in people by slowing the elongation of the eye that causes myopia.
With the device, Honor uses artificial intelligence to simulate the same effect on the display. The company has confirmed that the Honor Magic V3 foldable smartphone and Honor MagicPad 2 tablet will feature a near-functional display for temporary myopia reduction.
The company claims that using AI Defocus Eye Protection for 25 minutes can reduce users’ temporary myopia by an average of 13 degrees. Citing research, the brand said some users experienced falls of up to 75 degrees.
According to a report from Android Central, these displays use a combination of OLED display technology and artificial intelligence scene recognition to replicate the effect of defocusing lenses. The publication claimed that this effect does not negatively affect the quality of the image displayed on the screen.
This effect is said to be invisible to the naked eye. However, Honor says that regular use of the screen for an extended period of time has been proven to reduce temporary myopia by an average of 13 degrees.
Notably, the Honor Magic V3 tablet is priced at ₹1,699.99 (approximately Rs. 188,000) and €1,999 (approximately Rs. 186,500) in Europe with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. On the other hand, the Honor MagicPad 2 costs £499.99 (approximately Rs. 55,300) in the UK and €599 (approximately Rs. 55,800) in Europe.
