Hindustan Zinc Reports Record Q1 Profit of ₹5,469 Crore, Announces ₹11 Interim Dividend

Udaipur, July 24: Hindustan Zinc Limited (Hindustan Zinc) has reported its highest-ever first-quarter financial performance, posting a 145% year-on-year (YoY) jump in net profit to ₹5,469 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. The company also declared its first interim dividend of ₹11 per share, amounting to a payout of ₹4,648 crore.

Hindustan Zinc Reports Record Q1 Profit

The company’s revenue from operations rose 77% YoY to a record ₹13,747 crore, while EBITDA more than doubled to ₹8,074 crore, up 109% YoY, driven by higher production, improved metal prices and the lowest-ever quarterly zinc production cost.

Record Production and Lowest Zinc Cost

Hindustan Zinc achieved its highest-ever first-quarter mined metal production of 268 KT for the fifth consecutive year.

The company also recorded its lowest quarterly zinc cost of production at US$851 per tonne, a 16% improvement over the corresponding quarter last year. The improvement was attributed to better mined grades, increased production, higher renewable energy usage and improved by-product realisation.

Refined metal production reached 260 KT, while silver production stood at 149 tonnes during the quarter.

Strong Cash Position and Dividend

The company generated ₹5,253 crore in free cash flow before growth capital expenditure during the quarter.

As of June 30, 2026, Hindustan Zinc had ₹12,892 crore in cash and investments, while total borrowings stood at ₹7,320 crore. The company continues to maintain a AAA credit rating from CRISIL.

The Board also approved a first interim dividend of ₹11 per equity share, equivalent to 550% of the face value, resulting in a total payout of ₹4,648 crore.

Renewable Energy and ESG Milestones

Renewable energy accounted for 22% of the company’s total power consumption during the quarter.

Among its key ESG achievements, Hindustan Zinc said:

  • Rampura Agucha Mine became India’s first mine after Chanderiya to receive the Zinc Mark certification.
  • The company was included in the Dow Jones Best in Class (Emerging Markets) Index for the first time.
  • It deployed India’s first 250-metric-tonne electric crane at Zinc Smelter Debari.
  • Rajasthan’s largest fleet of 41 electric buses for workforce transportation was launched at Debari.
  • Hindustan Zinc featured in TIME’s World’s Most Sustainable Companies 2026 list.
  • The company signed agreements to explore hydrogen fuel and clean energy solutions and to undertake a 250-hectare ecological restoration project at the Chanderiya Lead Zinc Smelter.

Leadership Changes

The Board has appointed Amarendu Prakash as Chief Executive Officer and Whole-time Director, effective August 1, 2026. He previously served as Chairman and Managing Director of SAIL from 2023 to 2026.

Amit Gupta assumed charge as the company’s Chief Financial Officer on June 1, 2026.

CEO Highlights Operational Excellence

Chief Executive Officer Arun Misra said the company began FY27 on a strong note with its highest-ever first-quarter mined metal production for the fifth consecutive year, reflecting the strength of its operations and continued focus on operational excellence.

He said the company’s debottlenecking initiatives continue to improve refined metal production while strengthening its position among the world’s lowest-cost zinc producers.

Chief Financial Officer Amit Gupta said the record quarterly performance reflected the company’s focus on operational excellence, cost competitiveness and disciplined financial management, supported by a strong balance sheet and prudent capital allocation.

Expansion Projects Progressing

Hindustan Zinc said work is progressing on several expansion projects, including:

  • A 510 KTPA fertiliser plant, expected to be completed during the second quarter of FY27.
  • A hot acid leaching project at Dariba for recovering lead and silver from smelting waste, targeted for completion in the second quarter of FY27.
  • A 250 KTPA integrated refined zinc expansion at Debari, expected to be completed by the second quarter of FY29.
  • India’s first 10 MTPA tailings reprocessing plant at Rampura Agucha, targeted for completion by the fourth quarter of FY28.

During the quarter, Hindustan Zinc contributed approximately ₹6,450 crore to the national exchequer, including nearly ₹1,700 crore to the Rajasthan government through royalties and other payments.
