Hindustan Zinc Educates Over 580 Students on Menstrual Hygiene Across Rajasthan on Menstrual Hygiene Day

Udaipur, May 29, 2025 — On the occasion of Menstrual Hygiene Day, Hindustan Zinc, India’s leading zinc producer, launched a series of awareness sessions to educate school-going adolescents on menstrual health and hygiene. As part of its flagship health initiative under the Mamta Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) program, the company organized informative and engaging activities in eight government schools located near its operational areas in Zawar (Udaipur), Dariba (Rajsamand), Chanderiya (Chittorgarh), and Agucha (Bhilwara).

Menstrual Hygiene Day

The campaign reached out to 582 students, both boys and girls, under the Shiksha Sambal initiative. This year’s global theme, “Together for a Period-Friendly World,” was central to the sessions, which were designed to break taboos, encourage dialogue, and promote hygienic practices among adolescents.

Interactive Learning with a Focus on Inclusion and Empowerment

Sessions began with a pre-test to assess the students’ existing knowledge. A female doctor, using a menstrual hygiene management apron, led the awareness workshop, explaining the biological process of menstruation, menstrual cycles, and the importance of hygiene during periods.

To address common myths and misconceptions, a rapid myth-busting session was conducted using visual card tools to make the learning more relatable and inclusive. An interactive floor game, based on a specially designed MHM-themed snakes and ladders mat, conveyed essential hygiene messages in a fun and memorable way.

Spreading Awareness Beyond Girls

Importantly, the sessions were also attended by boys, ensuring that menstrual health is understood as a shared responsibility, and fostering a culture of empathy and support among peers.

The sessions also covered anemia awareness, with guidance on identifying symptoms such as fatigue and pale skin, supported by an anemia chart and nutritional tips for prevention.

Demonstrating Safe Menstrual Practices

Students were introduced to various safe menstrual hygiene products, including sanitary pads, tampons, menstrual cups, and disposable period panties. This hands-on demonstration aimed to empower young girls to make informed and confident choices about menstrual health.

By addressing menstrual hygiene through such inclusive, interactive, and informative initiatives, Hindustan Zinc continues to make a meaningful contribution to adolescent health and gender-sensitive education in rural Rajasthan.
