Dehradun, May 2: Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Harish Rawat, expressed his views on various political and social issues, commenting on both central and state politics. Speaking about the Char Dham Yatra, he emphasized the need for improved facilities for pilgrims, stating, “Every year, millions of devotees from across the country and abroad visit here, and their experience should be positive. It is the responsibility of the government and administration to provide better facilities to ensure that their journey is smooth, safe, and enjoyable.”
Rawat also raised concerns regarding recent incidents during the pilgrimage, suggesting that certain slogans and the overall atmosphere indicate a need for improvement in arrangements.
Welcoming the Supreme Court’s decision to grant anticipatory bail to Congress leader Pawan Khera, Rawat described it as a significant step towards protecting freedom of expression, which is integral to the spirit of democracy. He noted that individuals who feel falsely accused have legal options available, such as filing civil suits or defamation cases, underscoring the importance of maintaining trust in the judicial process within a democratic framework.
Commenting on Punjab politics, Rawat indirectly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He supported the call for a drug test raised by Punjab’s Leader of Opposition, Pratap Singh Bajwa, stating, “Bajwa is an experienced and serious leader. If he has made such a demand, it should be taken seriously, and an investigation based on facts should be conducted.”
He further stressed the necessity of transparency and accountability in public life, especially concerning elected representatives, and suggested that such issues should be resolved through institutional means rather than mere political rhetoric.
