Bhuj, August 6: The Gujarat Police have seized assets worth ₹22.31 lakh linked to drug trafficking in Kutch. This marks the first successful seizure under the provisions of the Drug Trafficking and Foreign Exchange Manipulation (Property Seizure) Act of 1976 in the last three years.
This operation is part of a broader strategy aimed at targeting the financial networks involved in illegal drug trade.
According to the Gujarat Police, this initiative was launched under the directives of Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi and Director General of Police (DGP) G.S. Malik. The police are actively identifying movable and immovable properties acquired through drug trafficking and are taking steps to seize them through legal processes.
To dismantle the financial infrastructure supporting illegal trade, provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act are being utilized in connection with crimes related to drug trafficking and the Foreign Exchange Manipulation (Property Seizure) Act of 1976.
The recent seizure followed an investigation by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Eastern Kutch Police. Under the guidance of Inspector General of Police Chirag Kordiya and the supervision of Superintendent of Police Sagar Bagmar, the SOG prepared a case that was presented to the competent authority in Mumbai, which subsequently issued the order for asset seizure.
The seized assets are linked to Pintu Vedanand, also known as Bedanand Yadav, who has been identified as a habitual offender and has been arrested three to four times previously in drug trafficking cases in Gandhidham.
During the investigation, officials alleged that Yadav had used money obtained from illegal drug trade to acquire properties in his and his wife’s name. The seized properties include a house valued at ₹15 lakh and three vehicles, bringing the total value of the seized assets to ₹22.31 lakh.
