Mumbai, May 19 — Shares of Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd. (GACL) surged on Monday after the company announced board approval for a new Hydrochloric Acid (HCL) synthesis unit at its Dahej facility in Gujarat. The stock rose 1.63% to ₹662.80 on the BSE, up ₹10.60 from its previous close of ₹652.20.

Key Project Details

According to an exchange filing, the company’s Board of Directors approved the installation of a 90-120 metric tonnes per day (MTPD) HCL synthesis unit on May 16, 2025. The estimated investment for the new unit is ₹35 crore.

The purpose of the new synthesis unit is to meet the captive consumption needs of GACL’s other manufacturing plants by utilizing an additional 80–100 tonnes of chlorine per day. This strategic move is expected to enhance operational efficiency and reduce dependence on external HCL procurement.

The announcement triggered positive investor sentiment, pushing the stock price upward despite market volatility. The scrip’s 52-week high stands at ₹900.00 (as of October 11, 2024), and its 52-week low is ₹484.00 (as of March 3, 2025). The current market capitalization of the company is approximately ₹4,843 crore.
