At its Made by Google event on August 13, 2024, Google announced its latest smartphone lineup, the Google Pixel 9 series, which includes the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL. With the introduction of these new models, many are wondering how the Google Pixel 9 differs from its predecessor, the Google Pixel 8, and whether the upgrade is worth the higher price.
This article provides a detailed comparison of specifications, features and pricing between the Google Pixel 9 and Google Pixel 8.
Google Pixel 9 price in India and storage options
Google Pixel 9 is available for Rs 79,999 and Google Pixel 8 is available for Rs 58,999. The Pixel 9 has a more powerful memory configuration with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage compared to the Pixel 8, which has 8GB of RAM and offers a choice of 128GB or 256GB of internal storage.
Pixel 9 vs. Pixel 8: Battery and performance
One of the Pixel 9’s notable upgrades is the battery capacity, which has been increased to 4,700mAh, which is slightly larger than the Pixel 8’s 4,485mAh battery. Both models use the Titan M2 security processor, but the Pixel 9 features the new one Google Tensor G4 chip that offers better performance than the Tensor G3 in the Pixel 8.
Display and brightness
The Google Pixel 9’s display is enhanced with a 6.3-inch OLED Actua display, which is slightly larger than the Pixel 8’s 6.2-inch display. Both models use OLED Actua technology for vibrant colors and deep blacks. The Pixel 9 has also significantly improved maximum brightness, reaching 2,700 nits compared to the Pixel 8’s 2,000 nits, improving visibility in bright environments.
Camera capabilities
Google has significantly improved the Pixel 9’s camera system. It has a 50-megapixel main camera, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 10.5-megapixel front camera for selfies. In comparison, the Pixel 8 also has a 50-megapixel main camera, but has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with autofocus. Both models have advanced photo and video editing features, but the Pixel 9’s improved ultra-wide camera offers more flexibility for capturing large scenes.
Battery life and charging
Battery life is another area where the Pixel 9 excels. In Extreme Battery Saver mode, the Pixel 9 can last up to 100 hours, while the Pixel 8 can last up to 72 hours in the same mode. This increase in battery performance is very important for users who need to use their device for long periods of time without frequent charging.
