Google on Tuesday released new features for Gmail that take advantage of Gemini’s artificial intelligence (AI) models. It’s called Polish, and it’s a new option in Gmail’s Help Writing feature that lets you create a complete, formal email draft based on your rough notes. The company said it will be available on both mobile devices and the web. At the same time, the tech giant also adds a filter shortcut that makes it easier for me to write for iOS and Android. These features are available to paying Gemini AI subscribers.
Google has released new Gemini artificial intelligence features for Gmail
In a Google Workspace blog post, the company announced two new tools. Both features are part of the company’s AI-powered Help Me Write feature, a writing assistant that harnesses the power of Gemini AI to help you write and improve your emails.
Help Me Write with Refine was previously available on the web, but has now been added to iOS and Android with a special shortcut icon. This feature allows you to take existing email drafts and improve them. Users have the ability to format, clarify, and shorten the draft to improve the draft and change the tone and length of the draft. Polish is new to Refine. Specifically, this function is only activated if at least 12 words are written in the text field.
The second feature, Polish, is part of Refine but covers a larger area. “As you enter your rough notes into a draft, Gemini turns them into a fully formal draft, ready for review with one click,” reads a post from Google. Additional examples in the video show how you can use this feature to convert short or incomplete sentences into formal email drafts.
On mobile devices, if the user enters 12 or more words, a Set Draft option appears below the text. Users can swipe right to open the bottom screen which contains all of the above options. There’s also an option called “Draft” that allows you to use the words you type as a prompt and continue with your email from there.
Notably, these features are only available to Google Workspace users who have subscribed to the Gemini Business and Enterprise add-ons, the Gemini Education and Education Premium add-ons, or the Google One AI premium plans.
