Gill and Rahul Shine as India Declares First Innings at 564 Runs

New Chandigarh, June 7: In a thrilling encounter, India faced Afghanistan in a single Test match at the Maharaja Yadavendra Singh International Cricket Stadium. On the second day of the Test, the Indian team declared their first innings at a formidable score of 564 runs after losing 8 wickets.

The day began with Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant adding 48 runs to the scoreboard. Captain Gill scored 126 runs off 177 balls, hitting 15 fours and a six before being dismissed. Pant also showcased impressive batting, scoring 81 runs with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes, narrowly missing out on a century. Dhruv Jurel struggled with the bat, contributing only 19 runs before his dismissal.

After the departures of Pant and Jurel, Washington Sundar and Manav Suthar took charge, forming a crucial partnership of 54 runs for the seventh wicket in 85 balls. Manav, in his debut innings, scored 28 runs before being dismissed. Mohammad Siraj also made a quick contribution, scoring 22 runs off 12 balls, including 4 fours and a six. Sundar remained unbeaten at 52 runs off 68 balls, hitting 5 fours and a six.

Sundar and Siraj added 30 runs in 23 balls, while they also put together 24 runs with Kuldeep Yadav, who remained not out on 9 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal chipped in with 24 runs, while KL Rahul played a stellar innings, scoring 100 runs off 165 balls. Sai Sudharsan supported the innings with 81 runs from 104 balls, including 13 fours.

In the bowling department for Afghanistan, Mohammad Saleem Safi excelled with 6 wickets, while Ziaur Rahman and Hashmatullah Shahidi claimed one wicket each. This score of 564 runs is the second-highest ever made against Afghanistan by any team and marks the first time since 2023 that the Indian team has crossed the 550-run mark.
