Four Drug Traffickers Arrested in Mizoram, Narcotics Worth ₹8.54 Crore Seized

Aizawl, August 3: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, security forces in Mizoram have arrested four individuals, including a Myanmar national, and seized narcotics valued at over ₹8.54 crore. The operations were conducted across three separate anti-drug missions.

A senior police officer reported that the Mizoram Police’s Special Task Force (STF), assisted by recruit constables, intercepted a truck traveling from Champhai to Aizawl. The truck was found carrying ten bundles of methamphetamine pills weighing 9.796 kilograms, with an estimated market value of ₹7.83 crore. The vehicle was driven by Vanlalruatsaka (32), a resident of Champhai district, which shares an unguarded international border with Myanmar. He was taken into custody following the seizure.

In another operation, a team from the Special Narcotics Police Station recovered 241.21 grams of heroin concealed in 20 soap boxes in Jemabok. The drugs were allegedly being transported by two suspected traffickers identified as Hussain Ahmed Laskar (23) and Noor Ahmed Laskar (34), both from Cachar district in Assam. They were arrested at the scene.

Additionally, police seized a Mahindra Bolero pickup van that was reportedly used for transporting the narcotics.

In a third operation, the Mizoram Police STF again, with the help of recruit constables, stopped a vehicle at the Khankawn check gate while it was en route to Aizawl. During the search, the team discovered ten cases of soap containing 118 grams of heroin, valued at approximately ₹23.60 lakh in the illegal market. The heroin was allegedly recovered from Vanlalmuana (27), a resident of Tahan in neighboring Myanmar, who was subsequently arrested.

The police have registered three separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and other relevant laws.
