Jaipur, August 11 (Udaipur Kiran): Jaipur experienced its first heavy rain of the monsoon season on Sunday. In just seven hours, the city received nearly three inches of rain. The rain started at 11 AM and continued into the night, turning Jaipur’s streets into rivers. Despite the downpour, district officials, including the Collector and representatives from the Municipal Corporation and JDA, were out on the streets to monitor the situation and clear blocked drains.

Tragically, four young men drowned while bathing in the Kanota Dam. Additionally, in Pragpura, one person drowned in a dam, and two others were swept away in the Manjhi River in Dudu. The heavy rain also caused a large sinkhole, 20 feet wide and 10 feet deep, on 60 Feet Road in Mahesh Nagar. In Malviya Nagar, several vehicles were stranded due to waterlogging near the Nandpuri bridge, but people were safely evacuated before any major incident occurred.

Traffic Disruptions and Flooding:

The heavy rain turned Sikar Road into a river, with water levels reaching 2-3 feet, causing vehicles to stall and float. The 200 Feet Bypass also experienced severe waterlogging, leading to a long traffic jam that took hours to clear. Other areas such as MI Road, Ambabari, Kalwar Road, Vaishali Nagar, JLN Marg, and Tonk Road also faced significant waterlogging and traffic jams.
