Srinagar, June 19: A fire broke out late Thursday night at a cement factory located in the Khonmoh area on the outskirts of Srinagar, injuring seven workers. One of the injured is reported to be in critical condition, while the other six are receiving treatment at a local hospital. Following the incident, police and administrative officials arrived at the scene to begin an investigation.
According to reports, the accident occurred while the workers were engaged in their regular duties within the factory premises. Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire erupted suddenly in the factory’s chimney, causing panic among the workers present. Seven workers sustained burns due to the flames and intense heat.
Upon receiving news of the incident, the factory management and rescue teams promptly initiated a rescue operation. All injured workers were evacuated from the site and transported to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment. Hospital authorities have admitted the injured into the emergency and burn care unit, where a team of specialist doctors is monitoring their condition.
A police officer stated that treatment for all seven injured workers is ongoing. He mentioned that one worker is severely burned and in critical condition, while the other six are reported to be stable. Doctors are continuously observing their health status.
Hospital sources confirmed that the critically injured worker is receiving special medical care, while necessary treatment is being provided to the other injured individuals. The hospital administration is regularly updating the families about the patients’ conditions.
Meanwhile, the police have taken cognizance of the incident and have initiated an investigation. Officials stated that a special team has been formed to ascertain the actual causes of the accident. The investigation will also examine whether the factory adhered to safety standards and mandatory safety protocols. The administration has indicated that necessary actions will be taken following the investigation report, based on the initial findings.
