Mumbai, August 1: Maharashtra Cyber has registered an FIR against an unknown accused in connection with a purported inflammatory video posted on the social media platform X. The case is linked to a video shared on the official account of Congress leader Bhai Jagatap. Although the video was posted from his account, the FIR has been filed against an unidentified individual.
The complainant stated in his police report that on July 31, around 2:00 PM, he was browsing his social media account when he came across a post from Bhai Jagatap’s X account. The post featured a video captioned “Serious Allegations Against the Government by Delhi Police.”
In the video, a person, identified as an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, is seen stating, “I am resigning from the Indian Police Service with immediate effect. The government expected me to lie in front of the press about students demanding their rights on the streets. I was told to prove them criminals, but I cannot be part of any system that prevents me from speaking the truth and forces me to trap innocent students. These students are not terrorists; they are the future of our country. I chose the police job to stand by the truth, not to sell lies. I cannot be part of this act by the government. From today, I stand with these students, not the government.”
According to the complainant, this video is a fake one created with the help of AI, where the voice and dialogue of a Delhi Police officer have been artificially altered.
Furthermore, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) of Delhi Police declared the video completely fake after a fact-check on July 28, 2026. PIB also made this information public on its official social media platforms. Despite this, the video was broadcast from Bhai Jagatap’s X account on July 30 at 6:09 PM without verifying its authenticity. The complainant alleges that the intent behind this was to create confusion in society, spread misinformation against the government, and generate discontent and disorder among the public.
The Maharashtra Cyber Cell is currently investigating digital evidence, technical details of the account, and other aspects related to the post.
